Rockwool develops 'unique' insulation system
19/10/2009 09:51:37

An insulation system described as "unique" has been developed by Rockwool, a manufacturer of non-combustible stone wool insulation.
The system was created as part of a refurbishment project at the Barbican Estate, which is Grade II listed.
Rockwool are undertaking work to insulate the top three storeys in one of the buildings on the Estate as they have recently been converted from offices into residential accommodation.
Due to the barrel roof of the property a new insulation system was developed by the team. They opted to use Rockwool's 40 mm Hardrock SPA roof insulation board with special grooves cut into the base of the board to allow for bending.
David Adams, market development manager from Rockwool, said: "Barrel roofs are often difficult to insulate fully. Most insulation comes in boards, which is fine for covering vertical walls or horizontal roofs, but cannot always bend to fit tightly and efficiently over a curved surface.
He added that Rockwool's product will ensure the Barbican Estate roofs will be well insulated and as energy efficient as possible.
Rockwool Insulation has a number of benefits - it is energy saving which reduces fuel bills, it is fire safe which protects buildings and it offers acoustic improvement to reduce noise nuisance.
