Polyflor style and safety for new hospital wing

Bold, confident colours from the top-selling Polyflor 2000 PUR polish-free range of heavy duty sheet vinyl - from commercial flooring specialist and Architects for Health think tank sponsor Polyflor Ltd - have been used to create the bright, attractive ambience of a new wing at Gravesham Community Hospital in Gravesend, Kent.

Flooring contractor J. Fitch, of Romford, Essex, installed 2000 PUR in reception areas and corridors and also fitted a combination of Polysafe Hydro and Polysafe Standard sheet vinyl safety floors and Polyclad high hygiene wall and ceiling cladding in bathrooms and toilets in the new wing.

Ideal for hospitals, Polyflor 2000 PUR now offers a range of 20 visually refreshed multi-tone shades, each featuring two base shades and two highlight tones. The product is available in sheet and tile and in two gauges - 2mm and 2.5mm - to cater for differing traffic levels.

All performance benefits, including homogeneous monolayer construction for 100% useful life, are maintained. Polyflor 2000 PUR features a high quality polyurethane reinforcement which, combined with a superior closed surface finish, can cut maintenance costs by up to 48% by facilitating a low cost, polish-free maintenance regime for the lifetime of the floorcovering.

Specially developed for continually wet/barefoot areas, Polysafe Hydro, available in eight aqueous shades, features a special “textured” pimple emboss - making it ideal for bath and shower areas at Gravesham - and conforms to EN 13845 Barefoot, the European Norm for safety flooring. Polysafe Standard, which offers a choice of 16 colours and a surface emboss for enhanced cleanability is also fitted in bathroom and toilet areas at the hospital.

Both safety floors provide sustained slip resistance throughout their guaranteed life and adhere fully to HSE Guidelines, achieving a result of ≥ 36 on the RRL Pendulum (wet test - 4S Rubber).

All three floorcoverings used at Gravesham have been independently tested and results demonstrate that they inhibit the growth of MRSA. An effective cleaning regime is, however, the most important defence against infection. And, in common with all Polyflor sheet vinyls, all three can be welded at the seams and to coved skirtings to create continuous, impervious surfaces which offer no sanctuary to dirt and bacteria.
