Architect: BDP

Location: London

Flooring systems by Saint-Gobain Weber, the UK formulator and manufacturer of innovative products for the design, commercial and industrial flooring sectors, have been specified for the first Republic of Fritz Hansen™ store which opened recently in Margaret Street, London W1.

The open-plan design of the new flagship store masterminded by architects BDP, London, has been created by the removal of established partitions resulting in a floor area with substantially different levels.  In certain areas, levels differed by as much as 50mm.  These voids were filled with energy-saving Weber Leca® Insulation Fill, supplied in 50 litre bags, to form an insulated foundation that complies with Building Regulations’ Approved Document L.  Application is a simple, one-man operation with the lightweight aggregate laid in the bag and covered with loose infill and levelled off.  As the bags weigh just 15Kg they are easily portable requiring no heavy lifting machinery so reducing equipment overhead and associated logistics.

weber.floor 4955 dB mat has been installed across the entire floor space which allows the weber.floor 4310 fibre flow levelling screed to flow efficiently and to act as a major acoustic barrier against impact noise transmission in anticipation of heavy footfall.

Applicator Mike Maslen of Neonclass, Basildon, Essex, specified weber.floor 4310 fibre flow for this project to quickly and efficiently build the main floating floor screed.  This is a standard drying, fibre modified screed for bonded, unbonded and floating applications which can be applied at thicknesses of 5 – 50mm.  It can take foot traffic in 2 – 4 hours and the final covering can be applied within 1 – 3 weeks, depending on conditions.  Pump applied, weber.floor 4310 fibre flow is designed especially for the renovation of existing floors and can be used to cover a variety of substrates.

The interior aesthetics of the Republic of Fritz Hansen™ store have been enhanced with the use of the innovative weber.floor 4650 duro colour.  This product adds another dimension to Saint-Gobain Weber’s design floor concept and achieves a striking, long-lasting and low maintenance floor finish for smart commercial and retail environments.  weber.floor 4650 duro colour is a through-colour, pump-applied, self-levelling cement based floor screed which is available in ten colours and has long-life colour retention pigments.

“To meet the challenging brief of this project it was essential to design a system suitable for a mezzanine timber floor that would not crack and would last the test of time,” says Mike Maslen, Neonclass.  “The system is living up to expectations and we are delighted; together we have engineered a solution using high performance products and our own innovative installation techniques which we can employ in other applications.”

Saint-Gobain Weber floor systems are manufactured at facilities in Bedfordshire, Shropshire and Northern Ireland contributing to reduced delivery distances and the company’s environmental and competitive pricing policies.
