BURLINGTON PROVES ITS FITNESS LEVELS GLOBALLY

As the onset of another new year sparks a multitude of fitness regimes and resolutions, one company that is already in great shape within the health and fitness environment is the UK’s leading natural stone producer, Cumbria-based Burlington.

And as this sector continues to grow at an alarming rate globally, Burlington is continuing to find that its portfolio of natural stone products is in substantial demand across many new schemes that are emerging in all corners of the world.

Architects and designers not just here in the UK, but as far a field as Australia and the USA, are specifying Burlington stone as an integral part of many new fitness centre, leisure and hotel schemes.

“It is the function and form of our natural stone that makes it so appealing,” states Burlington’s Joint Managing Director, Malcolm Hatch. “In addition to the aesthetics of the material serving to enhance both interior and exterior environments that one associates with health and fitness centres, the technical properties of our stone make it one of the most perfect mediums there is. In addition to being extremely hard wearing, it also easy to clean and maintain: aspects that are critical within health and fitness facilities,” he adds.

Whilst widely used as flooring and paving, Burlington’s natural stone is being increasingly specified for both the lining and decking of bespoke swimming pools and spas, not to mention shower areas.

Alongside Burlington stone’s suitability to those uses within the interior environment already detailed, it is equally at home when used as vanity units and splashbacks, skirtings and borders, and wall cladding. Such diversity of use is matched by the colourways and finishes that the stone is available in, not to mention Burlington’s ability to deliver standard product offerings as well as unique, individual pieces to exacting dimensional tolerances that are required for intricate bespoke designs.

Available to the individual or architect/specifier is an extensive colour palette and a range of smooth and textured finishes; the latter helping deliver anti-slip properties which are important in areas prone to wetting. Technically, Burlington stone exhibits great strength. In addition to being hard, dense and very durable, it is impervious to water, resistant to frost, acid rain, salt attack and pollution, cycles of wetting and drying, and extremes of temperature. It is also colourfast, non-combustible and self-cleaning.
