Sound insulation part of green and sustainable development

24/12/2010 14:47:53

Sound insulation part of green and sustainable developmentA unique building technique currently in use for a Hartlepool-based property development is enabling the homes in question to benefit from super-efficient sound insulation.

The £8 million scheme on Easington Road utilises the Evolve system developed by the Keepmoat group to construct the 68 properties offsite in factory-controlled conditions.

This means precision factory engineering methods can be used to create sound insulation that exceeds the requirements set out in the current Building Regulations.

With the Evolve system, the properties in question also emit 42 per cent less carbon dioxide and cost 25 per cent less to build.

The first finished homes are expected to be made available to those looking to purchase or rent in early 2011.

'This method of building is an ideal solution for providing quality affordable homes,' remarked Sarah Fawcett, head of development at housing association Housing Hartlepool.

Keepmoat is also involved in another new affordable property development located in Birmingham.

The initiative will see new homes constructed at seven sites across the city, with each property to be built to meet the requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.
