Sound insulation 'is a priority'

Installing sound insulation is essential and it has a number of important benefits, one specialist has claimed.
Editor of Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine Jason Orme said a recent scheme in Scotland that is targeting noise protection is 'particularly pertinent'.
Earlier this month, the Scottish government announced building regulations in the country that are expected to make new-build homes more energy efficient and included mandatory sound insulation.
'The ability to live in houses when other people are making noise in them is absolutely critical,' Mr Orme noted. 'The quality of houses is more important than ever these days.'
Initiatives such as these that tackle the acoustic shortcomings in properties are going to make the standards of all new domiciles much better, he added.
According to the expert, timber frames are especially prone to poor sound insulation and have been a significant problem in Scotland where they are more common,
English and Welsh houses tend to be built out of conventional masonry blockwork, he explained.
