Wind farm 'to power third of Welsh homes'

A new wind farm substation will provide sustainable energy to around a third of Welsh properties upon its completion, experts behind the project say.
The Gwynt y Mor green energy scheme continues to be developed, with a Siemens offshore substation constructed in Belfast currently making its way to Liverpool Bay.
Siemens designed and engineered the substation in Manchester, while Belfast shipbuilding firm Harland and Wolff Heavy Industries also worked on it.
Subsea cables for the 160-turbine offshore wind farm are currently being laid, with 576MW of power due to be provided by the site when it is completed.
David McVeigh, sales manager at Harland and Wolff, said of the project: "It is great to see these major projects designed and built in the UK.
"These projects utilise a vast range of UK products, equipment, services and personnel. The substations are a shining example of British companies working together to achieve great things."
