Home refurbishment scheme launched

13/06/2012 11:18:38

A company which bids to improve environmental standards in the building industry has launched a new initiative aimed at home refurbishment projects.

BRE Global unveiled the BREEAM domestic refurbishment standard to delegates attending the Housing 2012 exhibition in Manchester.

A wide variety of projects will be able to achieve the standard, including small-scale ones such as window replacement or insulation installation, as well as work done on a number of properties.

It is hoped the scheme will help encourage the use of sustainable products by all those involved in the construction industry.

Chief executive of BRE Global Carol Atkinson said the new scheme would help property owners and occupiers save on operating costs and reduce the environmental effects of refurbishment work.

She added: "It pinpoints those elements of the refurbishment that will bring the greatest returns and provides a methodology, software tool and certification for those responsible for the delivery of sustainable domestic refurbishment projects."
