Green and sustainable building 'potentially enormous'

The possibilities presented by green and sustainable building - even within the existing housing stock - are substantial, according to a new industry report.
Published by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Construction Industry Group, the study - entitled The Commercial Value of Sustainability: A CIMCIG Industry Report - places the potential value of the sector at more than £6 billion each year.
Green and sustainable building projects that involve retrofitting existing property could ultimately create tens of thousands of new jobs, the report adds.
This is in addition to the importance of environmental awareness in new construction, as many of the homes we will be living in by 2050 have already been built.
CIMCIG says: "This CIMCIG report looks at the opportunities sustainability represents for construction and the opportunities low-impact buildings represent - and highlights the need for greater progress."
Ways suggested to do this include raising awareness of homes already designed to high levels of sustainability, in order to help overcome the cynicism they sometimes attract.
