New flooring materials required as Brits makeover garage

Cars across the country are set to lose their homes, as 1.1 million garages undergo a makeover to transform their original purpose.
According to research conducted by Santander, the structures are being made over in order to change them into utility rooms, studies and spare bedrooms.
Meanwhile, buyers believe that these conversions could increase the value of the UK's housing stock by as much as £8 million.
While the external structure of the space may not need much alternation, Britons may find that they need to invest in new flooring materials, windows and doors if they are converting a garage, in addition to having central heating or insulation installed.
Phil Cliff, director of mortgages at Santander, said: 'For a relatively modest investment garages can be transformed into a space that far better matches our current needs. For many homeowners maximising their current space is a far more affordable and convenient option than moving home.'
It is not only garages that are reportedly adding value to homes, with Uncle Wilco, author of the readersheds.co.uk blog, recently claiming that sheds can also increase the asking price of a property.
