Green and sustainable buildings are vital, expert says

29/04/2010 11:39:51

New houses need to be more energy-efficient, it has been claimedGreen and sustainable buildings are an important part of tackling energy-efficiency issues in Britain.

This is the opinion of Simon McWhirter, campaign director of the Great British Refurb Campaign, who said green and sustainable buildings are not something that should be overlooked.

'It has been identified as the front line in the fight against climate change and the UK will never meet its tough-to-tackle carbon budgets without getting this aspect of policy absolutely spot on,' he claimed.

His comments come as the organisation launches a new election analysis ranking system that compares all of the main political parties regarding their eco-friendly strategies.

The scorecard will see the Conservatives, Labour and the Liberal Democrats tested on the creation of jobs in the construction industry and how much they will encourage green and sustainable building refurbishments.

In a bid to promote the benefits of energy-efficiency, the Great British Refurb Campaign has launched the Home of the Future project, which will see a house gradually transformed into a green and sustainable building.
