Boiler scrappage scheme 'is a great idea'

Scotland's boiler scrappage scheme is an excellent way for the country's government to encourage people to consider their impact on the environment.
This is the opinion of Blane Judd, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering, who said it is likely the take-up for the initiative will be good.
Those taking part in the venture will receive £400 off the price of a new energy-efficient boiler, provided their current model fails to convert at least 70 per cent of fuel into warmth.
Mr Judd said the benefits are two-fold, as individuals recognise the immediate advantages of getting a discount for a heating system, but will also be informed of the return on investment such upgrades can have.
'What people should be looking at is the fact that there is evidence that you can save as a consequence of doing this,' the expert went on to say.
