Olympics '£0.5bn under budget'
14/06/2012 09:35:02
Sports minister Hugh Robertson has announced that in "a great advert" for the UK construction industry the Olympic projects will be delivered under budget.
Mr Robertson told Radio 4's Today programme that the projects are nearly complete and that out of the games delivery budget of £9.3bn "all being well, we should be able to hand £0.5bn back to the Treasury".
"I have to announce the exact number to Parliament first but in line with our predictions a quarter ago, we will be able to announce this morning we have just under £0.5 billion left." he added.
"That is 25% of the original contingency with the project nearly complete and that is a great advert for the British construction industry."
In January a poll found that two-thirds of Britons were impressed with the delivery of the games.
