Students 'interested in construction jobs'

08/06/2012 07:53:12

Careers in the construction industry are still proving to be a popular option for students on construction-related degrees, despite the negative reports of the recruitment market in the media, according to a new survey.

A survey by TARGETjobs found more than half (52%) of students polled were not put off by negative stories about the job market in the construction sector.

Of the 361 students questioned, just 5% said they were put off entering the construction job market after completing their studies.

In good news for companies in the sector, around 45% of students said they were very confident or confident about finding work or an internship.

Fewer than three in 10 students (30%) said they were neutral about their job hopes across the sector.

Those students confident of finding a job post-degree may be keen to learn the signs are encouraging. Most recruiters attending the last meeting of the TARGETjobs construction recruiters panel revealed that although conditions are still cautious, more jobs will be advertised this year compared with 2011.
