Green and sustainable buildings 'more than just about CO2'

Green and sustainable building initiatives should address more concerns than merely reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, it has been claimed.
Peter McManners, author and consultant on environmental issues, said businesses in particular need to outline an entire strategy for eco-friendly matters.
'When we focus on climate change it leads you to focus on carbon and of course that's what all the regulations are about,' he remarked. 'But that can give a fairly narrow response.'
According to Mr McManners, a number of firms will benefit enormously from new policies regarding CO2 emissions, but it is important to keep everything in context.
Getting people to change their behaviour concerning the environment is central to this, he added, so it will be necessary to widen the focus from just this form of pollution.
His comments follow the launch of the government's Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Saving Scheme, which is geared towards large public and private sector companies in order for them to improve energy efficiency.
