Floods blamed on poor drainage
15/08/2011 09:21:06
A lack of drainage has been given as the reason for high water levels on a street in West Fife that is prone to flood damage.
Firefighters and council workers were out in full force on Park Road in Rosyth in an attempt to stop houses from flooding following heavy rainfall on Wednesday. They worked around the clock to clear drains of rubbish and put sandbags in place.
The poor drainage is also thought to be having a knock-on effect on nearby Bevan Place where water levels were also on the rise.
Rosyth councillor Pat Callaghan described the area as an absolute disaster and said there was at least 10 inches of water on the street.
Speaking about the drainage situation he said: "It's a big, big problem. Rosyth is a flood plain and we need to put a capful of money into it to sort it out. I've been asking for additional drainage solutions for years and have crucified the council to do something about it."
