A-rated windows and doors 'help gain BREEAM certification'

Commercial property developers could find it easier to obtain BREEAM certification if they use A-rated windows and doors to improve the environmental profile of the structure they are creating.
Schueco, a manufacturer of windows and doors, facades and solar products, has launched a range of aluminium tilt-turn and commercial casement windows named AWS and designed to meet the requirements for an A grade.
The company says: 'Schueco AWS windows are not simply sustainable in terms of their materials and manufacture; they are also sustainable in use because their high level of thermal insulation minimises the energy needs of the building.'
A total of 13 different criteria are taken into account when assessing the energy profile of a window, including the raw materials used and the end-of-life disposal of the unit.
By using A-graded windows, however, Schueco adds that extra credits can be earned when being assessed under the Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment Method.
These are enhanced further by the credits awarded for reduced CO2 emissions and heat loss, improving the return achieved when A-grade windows are installed.
