Remote access to heating materials 'desired among young people'

Remote access to heating materials 'desired among young people'An age gap exists between those people who would welcome remote access to heating materials installed in their home and those who would be more reluctant to adopt such technology, it has been revealed.

A study from IMS Research suggests that older people are less likely to be willing to use, for example, a mobile phone handset to enable remote access to heating materials fitted in their property.

However, younger people and early adopters in both the UK and US seem welcoming of the potential to change their thermostat or switch their heating on and off remotely - via mobile phone or the internet.

The study did reveal almost universal support for real-time displays of how much energy is being used in the home, however.

More than 90 per cent of those surveyed said such technology is useful, with more than half terming it "very useful" for their needs.

The news follows a report from analyst Frost & Sullivan that recommended a single point of control for heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems in order to maximise the efficiency of a property.
