Green and sustainable building consultation 'will ensure quality homes'
29/03/2010 09:54:33
The quality of green and sustainable housing is likely to increase with the publication of a new consultation into the matter, one expert has suggested.
Chief executive of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) Sir Bob Kerslake said the document will encourage high standards in challenging economic conditions.
Key considerations of the paper include the viability of environmentally-friendly schemes, core standards in construction and the impact of projects on the sector.
Sir Bob stated: "We must ensure that every investment we make is lasting, which means creating quality homes and places that will stand the test of time."
One such proposal is setting a minimum Level 4 on the Code for Sustainable Homes for new ventures, as well as hitting at least 14 of the 20 Building for Life criteria.
Earlier this month, the HCA announced it will be awarding over £1.5 million for the development of 25 sustainable properties at Norham, near Berwick.
