A joint commitment from a number of major home improvement brands has led to the first formal agreement to boost green and sustainable building in the DIY market, according to packaging industry action group Wrap.
In its Review of the Year 2009-10, Wrap reports that 'six major retailers and brands come together for the first time through a voluntary agreement'.
Their targets include an intention to cut by half the amount of waste that is sent to landfill due to their products, with a deadline of the end of 2012 for achieving this.
A 15 per cent reduction in packaging could further boost the eco-friendliness of their products, helping to assist homeowners in their green and sustainable building aspirations.
Dr Liz Goodwin, chief executive officer (CEO) of Wrap for the past three years, claims that the pace of development at the organisation has been breathtaking over that time.
'If there has been a dull moment since I took over as CEO three years ago, I must have blinked and missed it,' she says.
