Heating materials 'need to be installed by professionals'

Heating materials and systems need to be deployed by a professional, one expert has claimed.
Chief executive at the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering Blane Judd said this is particularly relevant for those purchasing a new green and sustainable model.
'What is ... important is to make sure that the person has also got the plumbing competencies associated with installing a wet central heating system,' he remarked.
According to Mr Judd, an A-rated boiler can quickly become a B-rated one if the person putting it in does not flush it through properly.
Even after installation it is vital to ensure heating systems are maintained regularly, he explained, as failing to do this will have an adverse effect on the return on investment people are expecting from their new energy-efficient product.
His comments follow the Scottish government's announcement of a boiler scrappage scheme that will see homeowners receive a £400 discount on environmentally-friendly purchases.
