Green and sustainable building fund announced

Third sector organisations in the UK that promote a range of green and sustainable building improvements will have access to a new £1 million government fund.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) announced the money is being made available as part of the government's environmentally-friendly commitments in conjunction with the London 2012 Olympics.
Bodies that can apply for financing are those involved in energy efficiency and usage in the home, water-saving activities and waste and recycling initiatives.
Commenting on the move, environment minister Dan Norris said the Games are likely to inspire people to become more conscious about their own health, as well as the wellbeing of their surroundings.
He remarked: "This funding
is being made available to those third sector groups who have the ability to change our lifestyles for a more sustainable future."
Earlier this month, Defra published a manifesto regarding how it will work with not-for-profit institutions to tackle issues such as climate change and green practices over the next five years.
