Intelligent heating materials 'can cut energy consumption'

08/07/2010 11:33:38

Energy consumption can be cut with the right heating materials and building automation, a new report suggests.

The right heating materials can be part of an approach to cutting energy consumption by automating building processes, according to a report from Frost & Sullivan.

In its study on Building Automation Systems: The Future Role of Open Protocols in Europe, Frost explains that heating materials can be coordinated through management systems to ensure a whole structure is operating in an energy efficient manner.

According to Frost, "integrated buildings, in which multiple building disciplines are interconnected, offer many advantages".

Industry analyst Reka Szanto adds that heating, ventilation and air conditioning play a key role in this, as they consume about three-tenths of all the power used across all applications.

Within a typical commercial building, this equates to three-quarters of all the energy used on a normal day.

The report was drawn up by Frost's Building Management Technologies growth partnership service, which aims to provide the insight needed for firms in the sector to expand.
