Wales offers boiler scrappage to over 60s
15/02/2010 12:17:29

Boiler scrappage vouchers worth £2.5 million will be made available to people aged over 60 in Wales from April 1st this year, under a new scheme launched by the Welsh Assembly Government.
The scheme, which provides subsidies to help householders replace old and inefficient boilers with new, greener models, has already been a success in England with around 55,000 vouchers already claimed.
The scheme provides vouchers worth up to £400 to help homeowners replace G-rated boilers with the most efficient, A-rated boiler.
Last week, the Welsh Assembly Government announced the launch of its own scheme, which will provide subsidies worth £500 to older people.
"We have allocated £2.5 million to the boiler scrappage scheme for 2010/11 and expect up to 5,000 Welsh households to benefit from a significant improvement in the energy performance of their heating systems as a result," said Environment, Sustainability and Housing Minister Jane Davidson.
Replacing a G-rated boiler with an A-rated model has been estimated to save households as much as £235 a year in reduced energy bills, as well as cutting emissions.
Applications for the Welsh scheme will be received from April 1st. The Assembly Government will launch more details of precisely how to apply in the near future.
