Solar panels cut bills for logistics firm

A Gloucestershire-based logistics firm says it will cut its energy bills and its carbon footprint after securing the use of a state-of-the-art sustainable building.

Howard Tenens, which provides supply chain management and related services to a range of major clients, believes the move will save over 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide in reduced emissions.

The building, known as Voltaic, is located in Essex. It features rooftop solar panels to generate electricity, large skylights to reduce the need for artificial light and solar thermal collectors to provide hot water.

Howard Tenens will use Voltaic to serve its contract with Coca-Cola Enterprises, which markets and distributes soft drinks and other products made by Coca-Cola.

This comes as more and more businesses look at how the premises they use can be modified to cut both energy bills and carbon emissions.

The government is keen for the business community to prioritise this issue, as the built environment is a major contributor to climate change.
