Doors and windows make good New Year resolutions
16/12/2009 13:40:27

Doors and windows will be high on the list when homeowners draw up their New Year resolutions.
RatedPeople.com, a website that allows people to choose a tradesman based on what previous customers have said about them, believes energy efficiency will be a big issue in 2010.
Households up and down the country will be putting pledges to reduce drafts by covering up gaps in external doors and windows and cut water wastage by fixing dripping taps and checking for leaks ahead of the traditional diets and fitness campaigns.
The Copenhagen summit has added fresh impetus to the climate change debate, while the recession has all homeowners looking to reduce their energy bills.
Doors and windows can often be big culprits when it comes to wasted energy in the home. Blocking drafts and investing in better insulated doors and windows can reduce carbon emissions and cut the cost of household energy.
RatePeople.com said it also expected to see a renewed commitment to recycling in the New Year, with more homeowners taking an interest in what they throw away.
"There are many ways that home owners can recycle their household waste," said Ottokar Rosenberger, the website's marketing director. "Most councils will only accept plastics, tins or paper, but other items such as furniture or clothing can be passed onto charities or advertised on the internet."
