Water-conscious showers and bathrooms could combat driest year since 1929

Installing more water-efficient showers and bathroom fittings may be wise for householders keen to take action in light of the driest start to a year since 1929.
The Met Office has published figures showing how the UK has been hit by a lack of rainfall in 2010, despite the snowy start to the year.
Communications director at industry body Water UK Barrie Clarke says: "These figures paint a graphic picture of why reservoir levels in the west are so low."
He adds that, "during such a dry spell, it makes sense to use water wisely wherever you live".
For the first six months of the year, 356.8 mm of rain fell on average across the UK, less than any year since 1929's unusually dry average of 275.7 mm.
Water-conscious showers and bathrooms could be one way for homeowners to take action to conserve the precious commodity in their own property.
Low-flow showerheads are designed to achieve the same pressure as a normal fitting, but without consuming as much water from the mains.
