Showers to help curb energy wastage
05/02/2010 11:54:32

With the government's energy regulator warning this week that action is needed to secure future energy supplies, homes and businesses need to look at ways of reducing energy wastage.
Residential properties are major contributors to greenhouse gases and with the economic conditions remaining difficult, there is also a growing desire to cut domestic bills.
Showers could play an important role in this effort. Heating the water for a shower uses around one-third of the energy required to heat the water for a bath.
With this in mind, switching to regular showers and only using the bath on rare occasions could help residential energy customers keep the cost of their bills down.
Many homeowners will be considering renovations this year, taking advantage of the sluggish housing market to add value to their properties in anticipation of a return to healthier growth in the coming years.
Bathrooms are often ideal candidates for a makeover. With energy prices a top priority, it is likely that homeowners will want to consider the benefits of showers, as well as other energy-saving innovations.
Truly innovative homeowners may even use solar-powered water heaters to further reduce both their energy bills and their carbon footprint.
