Pipework repairs 'can save in the long run'

Homeowners could be subjecting themselves to false economy by leaving old pipework untouched, it has been warned.
Property preservation firm Aspect Maintenance explains that an immediate response to ageing pipes can reduce the risk of suffering a leak in the future.
Meanwhile, failing to maintain the water supply and drainage systems in a property could lead to them needing to be replaced in full.
William Davies, managing director of the property maintenance firm, blames the credit crunch for the number of people living with leaks that has been reported recently.
"Fewer people will have been able to make improvements to their property to prevent issues such as leaks," he says.
His comments follow the publication of figures by emergency repair insurance provider HomeServe showing the number of people living with leaks in domestic properties.
The insurer estimates that as many as 100,000 people nationwide have had a cistern or toilet leak for the past 12 months.
