NHBC urges industry to gear up for Part G
16/06/2009 17:08:04

Construction firms should familiarise themselves with the changes to Part G of the Building Regulations, the National House Building Council (NHBC) has urged.
The group explains that the new regulations will affect all those working with sanitary conveniences, bathrooms, food preparation areas and hot water storage installations, with the number of requirements doubling under the expanded code.
Outlining the new regulations, the NHBC states: "You will still have to provide sanitary conveniences, bathrooms and provisions for hot water storage, in addition to ensuring a suitable cold and hot water supply with safety measures, considering food preparation areas and helping to conserve water."
With the changes announced in May, the industry will need to be fully compliant by October 1st 2009.
Among the new requirements is an assessment of water usage for all new-build properties.
Communities and Local Government has published a water efficiency calculator to assist the industry in ensuring compliance with the new regulation, which stipulates that no person's daily residential water usage shall exceed 125 litres.
