Electrolux unveils ambitious energy plans

Electrical products manufacturer Electrolux has unveiled new plans to cut energy use at its factories, warehouses and offices by 15 per cent by the end of 2012, compared to 2008 energy usage.
According to the company, doing so will help to prevent 70,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere, which is the equivalent to the yearly emissions of 40,000 cars.
The announcement builds on previous energy reduction strategies that allowed the company to reduce electricity consumption by 14.5 per cent by the end of 2008, compared to 2005 levels.
"Electrolux has a role to play in the climate challenge. We can do this while growing our business and streamlining our operations," says Hans Straberg, Electrolux's president and chief executive officer.
Last month, Mr Straberg announced that the company was continuing to perform well despite difficult market conditions and had managed to record growth in the first quarter of the year.
