Contemporary Westminster

3 March 2009 – 28 March 2009
A New London Architecture exhibition at The Building Centre
Westminster is renowned for its outstanding heritage with the largest number of listed buildings and conservation areas of any London borough. Its townscape is a record of London’s growth and history, but it is also a living community that embraces change and innovation. Contemporary Westminster celebrates the new architecture of the city and marks the conclusion of the City Council’s Design Year. The fifty projects that have been selected give a snapshot of architectural design in the first decade of the new Millennium, ranging from single houses to major commercial developments, from cafes to new schools. The schemes embrace the modern world in both their architecture and expression, demonstrating Westminster’s continuing aim to achieve the highest standard and quality of architecture.

CPA Industry Forecast

The economic environment has altered substantially over the past 18 months and although economic slowdowns are a cyclical phenomena, the sharp rate of this decline has been unprecedented. Crisis in the financial markets has led to a slowing of economic activity and a sharp fall in credit availability. Recovery is dependent upon an upturn in credit markets in the private economy and government keeping to its many pronouncements of spending.

Spanlite exhibition at The Building Centre

Spanlite has developed an entirely new way to back-light permanently installed glass or Decoran recycled glass walls without the need to get access behind to service the lamps. This system can be seen in a new display in the Building Centre from March 09 and is open for architects and designers to view.
The SpanLite ‘cassette’ lighting system uses a 12mm thick PolyLite edge lighting panel set 25mm behind the feature wall, with light from LEDs shone into the top and bottom edges which producesan even panel of illumination suitable for back lighting.
