Light switches
The standard light switch has a pretty basic function – “on” or “off”. But there are many variations to meet different requirements in an installation.
- 2 way or intermediate
- 6, 10 or 20AX Ratings
- single, double or triple pole
- Retractive push to make/break or two-way and centre off
- Etc, etc
All the options to cover everything the installer is likely to need.
And there is considerable choice in what it looks like
- Rocker, dolly, touch, or key
- Plastic or metal
- Different metal finishes
- Plain or engraved or printed (for special purposes)
- Illuminated
This means the specifier and the client are spoilt for choice when it comes to settling upon what goes with the interior design scheme.
Then there are dimmers
- Rotary
- Push
- Touch
- Retractive
- Remote
And dimmers can range from 400w per gang (on a traditional wall mounted type) up to 5kw of different light sources per channel on a commercial system, where the system is installed at a distance from the controller, whether that be wall-mounted or a remote handset. Wall-mounted controls can be put on the same design of plate as the other switches, so continuity of design is maintained.
