Wood pellet burners 'eco-friendly but stylish heating materials'
29/07/2010 13:50:52
Heating materials can be both eco-friendly and stylish, it has been noted, which could make sustainable heating a desirable option for new homes or retrofitting older properties with fashion-conscious owners.
For instance, wood pellet stoves can be found in black, white or grey, among other finishes, while the flames may be viewed through a glass panel in the door.
They can also be scheduled to switch on automatically, warming the home before the family arrives, according to heating materials manufacturer Euroheat.
Further benefits associated with wood pellet stoves include their carbon neutrality; the burnt fuel releases only the carbon that was removed from the atmosphere by the tree, with no overall net contribution to emissions.
Ethical householders may also soon have a new level of security in terms of the source for their fuel pellets.
The European Commission is considering legislation to place a duty of care on importers to ensure that the wood-containing products that they buy - including fuel pellets - are produced from timber felled in accordance with the laws of its country of origin.
