Heating materials 'to help UK achieve low-carbon objectives'
21/07/2010 16:49:24

The Green Deal from the coalition government is to help use savings from utility bills to pay for heating materials such as lagging for water tanks and insulation to stop warmth from escaping, secretary of state for energy and climate change Chris Huhne has revealed.
In an article for the Telegraph and republished by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, he explains that energy efficiency improvements are to be encouraged as part of the Energy Security and Green Economy Bill.
They include the reinvestment of funds saved on power into technologies to further raise the efficiency of the nation's housing stock, such as insulating heating materials against losing warmth and thus wasting fuel.
Lagging on pipework can also help to prevent risks associated with cold weather, such as water freezing, expanding and causing the pipes to crack.
Mr Huhne and his French and German counterparts recently revealed that the three countries are aiming to exceed the targets set out for reducing carbon emissions by the European Union, with plans to achieve a 30 per cent cut by 2020, compared with 1990s levels.
