Green and sustainable building 'adds to property value'

Green and sustainable building 'adds to property value'The value of a property can be increased by around five per cent through green and sustainable building projects, according to a spokesperson for the National Home Improvement Show.

Michael Holmes, speaking on behalf of the property upgrades exhibition, claims that green and sustainable building work to retrofit a domicile with solar panels is the 'ultimate responsible home improvement'.

In addition to improving the energy profile of a property, he notes the financial benefit that can be reaped through an increase in the power-generating potential of the structure itself.

Homeowners can add five per cent to the value of their property on the retail market by fitting photovoltaic cells, he claims.

Meanwhile, those who do not wish to sell can also see economic advantages potentially equivalent to almost £1,000 each year.

Energy bills can be cut by £100 by installing solar panels, Mr Holmes says, with £30 of power sold to the national grid and as much as £700 extra generated through feed-in tariffs.
