Examples of green and sustainable building could earn Environment Agency praise
31/08/2010 15:02:16
The Environment Agency is seeking examples of eco-friendly activities, including green and sustainable building projects, as part of a new scheme.
In its Environmental Pioneer Awards, the body is to recognise best practice in fields such as green and sustainable building, emissions reduction, technology, waste and water usage.
The agency says the accolades 'will recognise companies, government bodies, local authorities, charities and other organisations that lead the way on environmental performance'.
Dr Paul Leinster, chief executive of the Environment Agency, adds that the initiative has been launched to demonstrate the 'good business sense' that action on ecological concerns represents.
A total of eight award categories have been created, with green and sustainable building grouped alongside transport and equipment usage in the energy performance and CO2 emissions discipline.
This is to be judged on emissions reduction and energy efficiency improvements, along with employee engagement where appropriate and a commitment to sustainability in the future.
