Outdoor showers 'need the right drainage materials'

As the weather alternates between sun and showers, householders considering fitting an outdoor shower of their own are reminded of the need to use the right drainage materials.
Writing for the Guardian, Hannah Booth explains that outdoor showers can offer a fun way to take interior design into the garden.
Driftwood and shells can add a beach-like surf feel, while bamboo and pebbles can be a high-class design inspired by the Far East.
But it is the drainage materials used that are important, Pimlico Plumbers heating engineer Matt Bedale tells her.
"Drainage is important, because you can't contaminate a standard gully with soapy water," he says.
Because of this, most people drain their shower water into a manhole, while showers fitted on roof terraces may require a separate pump to be fitted.
Guidance from the Energy Saving Trust suggests low-flow shower heads as a means of reducing the amount of water used and saving both water and energy in one simple step.
