Cladding materials could be affected by planned timber legislation

Timber cladding materials could be among the building supplies impacted by plans to legislate against illegal imports of wood.
A two-year timetable has been outlined by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) for legislation to be introduced.
This commences in November 2010 and is due to run through until November 2012, by which time new regulations could apply to imports of timber for cladding materials and other building purposes.
Should the plans go ahead, it is likely that the legislation will criminalise the act of allowing illegally logged timber to come into the UK.
Environment secretary Caroline Spelman announced the measure on Friday as part of Defra's Structural Reform Plan, which aims to support growth in green economies during the recovery from the recession.
"The coalition government has pledged to be the greenest government ever. That means making sure we have the greenest economy ever," she said.
